Al-Rumeih: Likelihood of Locust Invasion Over 60%

SANA’A - Director of the Center for Fighting Desert Locusts, Abduh Al-Rumeih has confirmed the strong likelihood of a locust invasion of Yemeni agricultural areas, putting it at above 60%. Al-Rumeih said that the spread of locusts in Yemen is stable and under control. Proliferating locusts, he said in a press statement, range from groups of 70 to 100 in each hectare. He said that there was no need yet for calling for equipment to spray the pockets of locusts with pesticides. “The number of locusts does not yet pose a threat,” he said. Al-Rumeih did not, however, rule out a mass locust invasion in the next few weeks.
